The San Francisco Police Department is calling on the public to help identify a suspect who allegedly attacked and choked a woman in Visitacion Valley earlier this month.

The department shared images on Friday of the man, who is described as between 25 and 29 years old, approximately 5 feet, 11 inches tall, 150 pounds, having black hair and last seen wearing a black jacket and black pants.

The woman told police that she was walking alone on Sunnydale Avenue near Bayshore Boulevard on the afternoon of May 7 when she saw a man acting erratically and “yelling incoherent statements” up ahead of her, a news release from police said. According to the release, she crossed the street in an attempt to avoid him and the suspect followed her.

The police report said the man allegedly grabbed the woman and “then put his hand on the victim’s neck and squeezed her throat, which prevented her from breathing.” The man continued to attack the woman, “pushing her to the ground and yelling incoherent statements,” the police report said. Police said that the suspect continued to strangle and choke the woman, while he was still on top of her. She then lost consciousness temporarily.

The woman said that the man fled after a witness called him out.

Police arrived on the scene at 3:00 p.m., but they were unable to locate him. The woman was treated by a team of medics who arrived at the scene.

Anyone with information can contact SF police at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
